Put this in your opening post underneath the sample role PM.

Mentorship program

For new and returning players who would like some assistance, we offer a mentorship program where a volunteer veteran player can assist you. If you are interested in having a mentor for this game, please contact your gamerunner. For more info, please check the main MafiERA OT.

We also have a collection of resources for players you can find HERE.

This will be the second post in the OT. It is the current rules for Mafiera games.

What Is Mafia?

Mafia, also known as Werewolf, is a famous social deduction game that puts two teams against each other: Town and Mafia. Mafia players know who everyone in their team is, while Town players only know their own alignment. Cut into two 'Phases', Day and Night, the game entails Town trying to eliminate the Mafia via discussion and voting while the Mafia are trying to not get caught in order to match or outnumber the Town in order to win.

Interested in joining or learning more? Check out our MafiERA OT!

Fundamentals:
1. All site-wide rules apply here.
2. Do not use slurs or bigoted language.
3. Please do not put active players on an ignore list during a game.
4. Unless explicitly told otherwise, players may not discuss this game outside of this thread.
5. Unless the gamerunner explicitly states otherwise, players may not quote or repost conversations or posts from outside of this thread. Players may NOT quote a majority of their role PMs.
6. Players are allowed to lie, within reason, about any game-related material such as the content of a role PM.
7. Please do not refer to, or discuss, player activity outside of this thread, for the sake of the game's integrity. This includes discussing circumstances around player replacement. Players (including the replacing player) should not refer to reasons for or behavior around replacements.
8. Please respect all of your fellow community members in terms of personhood and accessibility. In this community we require that you respect person's pronouns and be aware of accessibility when using non-default text (do not change text color unnecessarily and be mindful of small and large fonts' impact on readability). [Era has a public pronoun feature. It is not required to play in our games but we encourage its use.]
9. Failure to adhere to a player's personal pronoun will result in a private warning. On the second offense that player will be removed from the game.

Game Behavior:
10. While mafia can be an intense and stressful game, with play becoming heated at times, please try to keep discussion as respectful and congenial as possible. Take a break if you feel heated. If someone is breaking a rule you are encouraged to alert your gamerunner and game watchers. Reports about in-game action and behavior will be handled by them, and the gamerunner will issue final rulings in the event of disagreements. If you need any support or assistance, reach out to a gamerunner or watcher.
11. Being overly hostile towards your fellow players is not allowed. If the gamerunner and game watchers find a player has been overly aggressive, action will be taken. First a private warning via PM will be given. Failure to stop the behavior will then result in another private warning and the offender will be given a priority penalty. If these behaviors still continue then that player will be removed from the game.
12. Treat players, gamerunners, and game watchers with respect. Players who are bothered by behavior they perceive as uncomfortable or as targeted aggression should make their positions clear in game as everyone has a different threshold. If a player feels someone has crossed a line they should contact the gamerunner and game watchers, listed in the first post, about the issue.
13. Players should not perform moderator actions in game, including using highlight text outside of voting, using highlight text to submit false or restricted commands, issuing day-end/start commands, or calling for the modkill or replacement of another player. Encouraging others to break these rules is also not allowed. While we understand mafia can be an intense experience, and players may wish to discuss in-game moderation decisions with the gamerunner, once a gamerunner makes a decision, please respect it as final.

Activity:
14. Players are required to post a minimum of 10 posts per day phase. Failure to adhere to this will result in a private warning. On the second offense that player will be removed from the game.
15. If a player posts fewer than 5 posts in a day phase without alerting the gamerunner to their absence, they will be removed from the game without a warning.
16. If you are unable to continue playing for whatever reason, please contact your gamerunner.
17. If a replacement is added to the game, they may request the current/upcoming night phase to be extended up-to 48 hours to allow time to catch up.
18. Please do not theorize or discuss the reasons behind a player's replacement during a game.
19. Do not talk about replacing out of the game. Please contact the gamerunner.

Voting:
20. In order to vote for another player to be voted out, you must present it on its own line and in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: playername[ /HIGHLIGHT ]. Any other format will not be accepted.
21. To remove a vote from a player, you may simply vote for another player, or you may present it on its own line and in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]UNVOTE[ /HIGHLIGHT ].
22. Players may vote for a "No Vote" to end the day phase without a player being voted out. This is done by using the formatting above and typing: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: No Vote[ /HIGHLIGHT ].
23. When a player has received a strict majority of available votes (>50%), the day phase ends with the removal of that player. Once a day phase has ended any in-game discussion stops and votes cast after that will not be counted.

Death and the Spectator Thread:
24. Once you are dead, you may no longer discuss the game in any manner with any of the remaining players.

Other:
25. Do not edit your posts or hide content in the formatting. Repeat offenders will be removed from the game.
26. If a player is replaced or modkilled due to any rule-breaking or being under the minimum post count limit, they will have end-game priority when signing up for a spot in their next game.
27. Gamerunners reserve the right to add, remove, or modify existing any rules at any point, and enforcement may be applied retrospectively. However, all players will be informed of changes beforehand.
28. Players may not be replaced during the last third of an ongoing phase; replacements at that point may be held until end-of-phase. This will be up to the gamerunner and the player’s discretion. (This rule is in testing phase.)

17. In order to vote for another player to be lynched, you must present it on its own line and in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: playername[ /HIGHLIGHT ]. Any other format will not be accepted.

18. To remove a vote from a player, you may simply vote for another player, or you may present it on its own line and in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]UNVOTE[ /HIGHLIGHT ].

19. Players may vote for a “No Lynch” to end the day phase without a lynch. This is done by using the formatting above and typing: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: No Lynch[ /HIGHLIGHT ].

20. When a player has received a strict majority of available votes (>50%), the day phase ends with the lynch of that player. Once a day phase has ended any in-game discussion stops and votes cast after that will not be counted.

Death and the Spectator Thread:

21. Once you are dead, you may no longer discuss the game in any manner with any of the remaining players.

22. Once dead, players may have a choice between the spectator thread and the replacement list. PM your gamerunner for more information.

Other:

23. Do not edit your posts or hide content in the formatting. Repeat offenders will be removed from the game.

24. If a player is banned or they are replaced due to inactivity they will have the lowest possible priority when signing up for a spot in their next game.

25. Gamerunners reserve the right to add, remove, or modify existing any rules at any point, and enforcement may be applied retrospectively. However, all players will be informed of changes beforehand.

Fundamentals:

1. All site-wide rules apply here.

2. Unless explicitly told otherwise, players may not discuss this game outside of this thread.

3. Unless explicitly told otherwise, players may not directly quote or post screenshots of any PMs, posts, conversations, or any other type of document that was not made in this thread.

4. Players are allowed to lie, within reason, about any game-related material such as the content of a role PM.

5. Please respect all of your fellow players. We ask that you respect a player’s personal pronouns and be aware of accessibility when using non-default text formatting. Please do not refer to, or discuss, player activity outside of this thread, for the sake of the game’s integrity.

6. Mafia can be an intense and stressful game at times with situations becoming heated. Despite this, being overly hostile towards your fellow players is not allowed. If a player is caught name calling, using slurs, and/or other aggressive behaviors determined by the gamerunner they will be warned. If these behaviors continue despite the warning that player will be modkilled. No exceptions.

Activity:

7. Players are required to post a minimum of 10 posts per day phase. Failure to adhere to this will first result in a warning. On the second offense that player will be removed from the game.

8. If a player posts fewer than 5 posts in a day phase without alerting the gamerunner to their absence, they will be removed from the game without a warning.

9. If you are unable to continue playing for whatever reason, please contact your gamerunner.

10. If a replacement is added to the game, they may request the current/upcoming night phase to be extended up-to 48 hours to allow time to catch up.

Voting and Lynching:

11. In order to vote for another player to be lynched, you must present it on its own line and in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: playername[ /HIGHLIGHT ]. Misspelt votes are only accepted within reason. Any other format will not be accepted.

12. To remove a vote from a player, you may simply vote for another player, or you may present it on its own line and in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]UNVOTE[ /HIGHLIGHT ].

13. Players may vote for a “No Lynch” to end the day phase without a lynch. This is done by using the formatting above and typing: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: No Lynch[ /HIGHLIGHT ].

14. When a player has received a strict majority of available votes (>50%), the day phase ends with the lynch of that player. Once a day phase has ended any in-game discussion stops and votes cast after that will not be counted.

Death and the Spectator Thread:

15. Once you are dead, you may no longer discuss the game in any manner with any of the remaining players.

16. Once dead, players may have a choice between the spectator thread and the replacement list. PM your gamerunner for more information.

Other

17. Outside of explicit allowances the use of the highlight tag is strictly for gamerunners. Do not use it.

18. Do not edit your posts or hide content in the formatting. Repeat offenders will be removed from the game.

19. If a player is banned or they are replaced due to inactivity they will have the lowest possible priority when signing up for a spot in their next game.

20. Gamerunners reserve the right to add, remove, or modify existing any rules at any point, and enforcement may be applied retrospectively. However, all players will be informed of changes beforehand.

Rules:

Fundamental

1. All site-wide rules are also applicable here. Please do not tarnish this community.

2. Unless your Role PM explicitly allows you to do otherwise, discussion about this game is strictly confined to this thread.

3. Unless your role PM explicitly allows you to do otherwise, you can not directly quote or post screenshots of any PMs or posts that were not made in this thread. This includes direct quotes or screenshots of Role PMs. A violation of this rule may result in a Modkill.

4. Within reason, you are allowed to lie about any game material or game-related conversations that could conceivably have appeared outside this thread [such as the content of role PMs or private chats allowed by a role]. If unsure whether a lie is reasonable, please ask the game-runner.

5. Do not refer to or discuss other player’s activity in other forum threads or life in general beyond the game. Please do not use this information for in-game purposes.

6. The player list includes the preferred personal pronoun of each player. Please try to use the correct pronoun.

7. Please be nice to your fellow players. Mafia can be a tense experience, and occasionally aggressive play is useful, but remember this is game and that everyone should have fun. Repeated aggressive action will be warned by a Mod and if that is ignored may result in a Modkill or a Replacement Player being sought.

Activity and Deadlines

8. Treat this game as a commitment. Remember that other players' fun is dependent on your participation; this game only works if you remain reasonably active.

9. If you do not post in this thread at least ten posts per Day Phase period without prior permission, you will be sent a warning via PM. If you fail to meet the ten posts per Day Phase minimum again after receiving a warning you will be Replaced and removed from the game.

10. If you need an extended period of absence for some other issues in life, please notify the game-runner by PM in advance. Leave of up to one Day and Night Phase (seven days) is possible.

11. If you expect to be unable to post for a period of 7 days, please notify the game-runner by PM so that you can be replaced in good time - we're sad to see you go, but other players need to be able to continue to play.

12. If a Phase ends and the game-runner has not received an action PM from a player with a relevant action, then that Phase will end with that that player making no action.

13. If a replacement is needed, they may PM the game-runner once to request the Night Phase in which they join is extended by up to 2 days, to allow catch-up time.

14. Game-runners may change the length of Phases at their discretion. However, they will inform players at the start of the equivalent Phase before (i.e., if Day 7 is set to be shortened, players will be no later than the start of Day 6).

Voting, Lynching, and Death

15. For your vote to count, it must be presented in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: playername[ /HIGHLIGHT ], via use of the Highlight Tag. It must also be in an entirely separate line from any other text.

16. Unless specified by the game-runner, any votes outside of this formatting will not be counted. This includes changes in Size, Color, or Font Family.

17. To remove a vote from a player, you must present in the following format with no spaces: [ HIGHLIGHT ]UNVOTE: playername[ /HIGHLIGHT ], via use of the Highlight Tag. It must also be in an entirely separate line from any other text. It is not necessary to unvote before casting new vote for a different player; unvoting is simply to remove a vote without casting a new one.

18. Players may use [ HIGHLIGHT ]VOTE: No Lynch[ /HIGHLIGHT ] with no spaces to end the Day Phase without a lynch ("No Lynch"). It must also be in an entirely separate line from any other text.

19. In the event of a day ending with no player having a plurality of the votes, then the game will proceed to the next night phase with nobody lynched ("no-lynch").

20. Misspelt votes will be accepted within reason; if the game-runner is unsure they will notify you and in the meanwhile discount the vote. Votes in broken tags will not count.

21. Once someone has received a strict majority (>50%) of the available votes, the day ends with the Lynch of that player or a No Lynch (whichever applies). Once this has happened, any further votes or unvotes that Phase will not be counted, and the Night Phase will begin shortly.

22. Once the Night Phase begins Players are not allowed to speak in the game thread until the following Day Phase. If an outside chat allows Night Phase discussion, such as a Scum Chat, then Players are allowed to speak there unless specifically prohibited.

23. Some roles take place between the end of the Day Phase and the start of the Night Phase, so game-runners may allow a short period of time for this "Twilight Phase". Unless your role PM explicitly allows you to do otherwise, do not post during the Twilight Phase.

24. Once you are dead, you are dead: you may no longer discuss the game in ANY manner with ANY of the remaining players. Dead players may PM the game-runner one last message for the other players (a "Will"), which the game-runner will post on their behalf in the thread. The sole condition is that it contains NO game-relevant information, e.g. "Thanks guys for an excellent game!" is allowed, "My partner was John!" is not.

The Spectator Thread

25. To allow dead players to freely discuss the game with other dead players, a secret thread will be created.

26. On death, a player can either opt to join the replacement list, or receive a link to the Spectator Thread. They may not do both. If a player opted to join the replacement list, they may change their mind, but players who have a link to the Spectator Thread cannot act as replacements.

Other

27. Outside of explicit allowances made by role PMs, the use of the Highlight Tag is strictly for Gamerunners. Do not use it.

28. Be aware that some people may find some font color/size changes very difficult to read. If you choose to use a different font size or color than the default, be ready to change it if someone requests it.

29. Do not edit your posts. If you are a repeat offender, a replacement will be sought.

30. Do not use formatting to hide extra content in your text.

31. A list of the votes so far (a "Vote Count") can be requested by contacting any game-runner or game-tutor.

32. Game-runners reserve the right to add, remove, or modify existing any rules at any point, and enforcement may be applied retrospectively. However, all players will be informed of changes, and changes will be consistent across games.

33. In general, do not try and exploit loopholes in the rules.
